Modal is, by technical definition, high-wet-modulus rayon.
Characteristics:
1. Modal is by nature cellulosic fibre. It is biodegradable.
2. Modal has better fineness: generally 1dtex, as compared with cotton 1.5-2.5dtex and silk 1.3dtex.
3. Modal fabric is soft, smooth and has excellent drape and luster which surpasses that of mercerized cotton
4. Modal has higher strength and tenacity than cotton: dry strength 35.6cn£¬wet strength 25.6cn.
5. Modal absorbs up to 50% more humidity than cotton. And it does so much faster. Modal is the ideal partner for clothing that is worn close to the skin: underwear, nightwear and more.
6. Modal creates a better product appearance with an extraordinary visual effect. It is wrinkle resistant and ironing-free.
7. Modal has excellent dyeability and washing resistance. Washing will not affect the sheen and feeling of the cloth surface. Its original feeling everlastingly remains unchanged.
The strength of dry modal approximates that of polyester (35cn/tec); and its wet strength slightly lower than cotton. The elongation of dry modal is somewhere between that of cotton and rayon; and its wet strength equals that of cotton and lower than rayon. Modal allows faster and higher dye exhaustion rate than cotton.
Modal creates extraordinary softness, drape, sheen and absorbence, and it can breathe. Such properties offer a new pleasure and taste of the natural fiber which no conventional one has offered. |
